Have you ever wondered if the Earth is getting warmer each passing year? You won’t believe that the past ten years have been confirmed as the hottest decade in 170 years of records! So what can we do about such a crucial issue? I used to think that cleaning and saving the Earth was the job of superheroes, but then I realized that we, as school students, can also do a lot by taking small, steady steps.

At school, we can:

  • Plan a “Waste-free Wednesday” in which we can challenge our friends to bring a lunch which has zero disposable plastic.
  • Be the “Energy Captain” by keeping the unnecessary lights and fans switched off and especially the monitors and the other electrical appliances.
  • Be the “Clean-up Crew” by keeping our classes and grounds clean and telling our friends to keep their surroundings clean too.

At home, we can:

  • Be the “Frosty Friends” by making sure that our clothes are washed with cold water instead of hot water as cold water uses less energy.
  • Be the “Nature Neighbours” by using the vegetable and fruit peels as fertilizers for our home garden instead of throwing them away.
  • Become the “Water Warriors” by keeping an eye on the leaky faucets, using buckets to take showers or washing our cars and using the leftover water from our kitchen to water the plants.

Saving the Earth might sound like a gigantic task but together we can make a huge difference. The Earth is our only home and like good inhabitants we must take care of this precious blessing! Whether you are switching off a light or using a reusable bottle every step matters. So are you ready to grab your green capes and join the team? The Earth is counting on you. So start today before it is too late.
