Starting from the 3rd Wednesday of October (which commemorates Global Dignity Day) a series of activities took place at BCP Qasimabad Campus. The day’s essence is rooted in the fundamental belief that each individual is entitled to live a life of honour, and is worthy of reverence, regardless of any differences in status, identity, or philosophies they may have. In a world where conflict and divisions seem to flow and compassion ebbs, empathy is the best tool at one’s disposal. Be it any hierarchical structure within an organisation or someone’s harmless day-to-day decisions, they all merit respect. Global Dignity Day renders an annual reminder to anyone who envisions a world of equality that coexistence and mutual consideration should be the guiding light moving forward. Deriving lessons, the administration and student body of BCP-Q put together multiple activities to foster a culture of respect and togetherness.
One group of students decided to pay a visit to The Walkway School. The non-profit organisation in Hyderabad aims to maximise access to education by helping underprivileged children attain admission into private schools. Our students spent the day engaging with the students in various dimensions. Be it simply colouring a drawing together or enjoying along to their favourite tunes, the students tried their best to interact with the children. These activities also proved as a breakthrough from mundane routines. Puzzles and worksheets were solved to pique the children’s interest. The key aim behind this activity was to create regard and togetherness for others, and remind them that responsibility is the natural corollary of privilege.
Another prime highlight was the match that took place between A-Level Cricket Team and the junior staff. It arrived to an ideal end when the junior staff rose victorious. Cherishable memories were created amongst the participants and the celebrations of the winners were worth witnessing. All contributors playing as equal members of their respective teams was the highlight of the event. Another group of A-Level students spent the day with junior section students. They worked on posters together and then spent quality-time with the youngsters, sending home the idea that it is upon us, the elders, to accommodate the young ones.
Moreover, a thorough presentation spreading awareness regarding Global Dignity Day and against bullying was given to 7th and 8th graders. The interactive session explored multiple dimensions of bullying, how to be a part of the solution, and ended with the students penning down what they learned from it. A fruitful Q&A discussion also took place. Lastly, video messages elaborating on Global Dignity Day were also recorded.
Bridging gaps between various contributors of the world around us, keeping our differences aside, and valuing all beings for their inherent humanity is what the spectrum of activities aimed to teach. We hope the students internalise just how important coexistence is, and that respect is the default in any situation. As they continue to outshine within and beyond classrooms, we hope these lessons will shape a perspective of understanding and equality.
