Little Bites, Big Changes

“Splash!” I threw water at my friend Moutasim. He looked silly standing there, his hair wet and water dripping from his face. I got him good this time, or so I thought. Unexpectedly, he turned around and threw the vegetables he had picked out from his leftover pizza at me. Next came the cheese, and suddenly my face became the pizza! I should have known this, as Moutasim was a picky eater.

In that moment, inside the cafeteria, we were having the time of our lives. However, we did not realise how fortunate we were to have enough food and water to waste, while many people struggle to meet their basic needs. Some people begging at traffic signals may go through the day without enough food or water and may even have to sleep on the footpaths under the hot, blistering sun.

That moment made me think about how easily we waste things that others desperately need. We should be more empathetic and appreciate the blessings we have. We can start with simple actions, such as taking only as much food as we can finish, not throwing away perfectly good food and using water responsibly.

Small changes in our daily habits can make a difference. After all, we can start making little bites for bigger changes.
