Igniting Curiosity Through Project-Based Learning at Beaconhouse

At Beaconhouse Early Years Campus KAECHS, learning is never a passive experience ,it is an adventure waiting to unfold. Our Kindergarten explorers have officially launched their latest Project-Based Learning (PBL) unit, “Up and Away!”, and the excitement across our classrooms is truly sky-high.
A Mystery Unpacked
To ignite immediate wonder, the unit began not with a lecture, but with a puzzle. A mysterious travel suitcase filled with intriguing artifacts unexpectedly arrived in class. Gathering around like true detectives, our young learners carefully examined every item, piecing together clues that pointed directly toward our new class reader: Oliver Who Would Not Sleep by Mara Bergman.
Bringing Literature to Life
Rather than simply listening to a story, our students stepped directly into Oliver’s shoes. Through interactive read-aloud sessions, literacy transformed into an immersive, whole-body experience:
Dramatic Play: Students roamed through imaginary outer space, physically acting out Oliver’s nocturnal adventures.
Emotional Literacy: Pausing at key moments in the narrative allowed children to analyze how Oliver was feeling, cultivating empathy and self-awareness.
Critical Thinking: Guided discussions encouraged students to evaluate Oliver’s choices, building deeper comprehension and critical reasoning.
Hands-On Exploration Beyond the Book
PBL thrives when abstract concepts meet concrete experiences. The “Up and Away!” unit naturally integrated fine motor skill development, STEM, art, and social connection into every activity:
Rocket Construction: Young engineers designed and built mini spacecraft, applying spatial awareness to help Oliver soar among the stars.
Custom Pajama Design: Combining artistic expression with fine motor practice, students crafted personalized, patterned sleepwear for their characters.
Cozy Culinary Math & Socializing: Snack time became a hands-on learning moment as students mixed their own chocolate milk and shared cookies, fostering friendship, independence, and real-world practical skills.
The read-aloud session was an absolute hit, keeping the children captivated every step of the way.With their curiosity leading the way, our Kindergarten explorers are fully packed, inspired, and ready for every new discovery waiting for them on this PBL journey!
