Procrastination is the act of delaying or putting off tasks until the last minute despite knowing that there will be negative consequences for doing so.
In most of the cases the common reasons for why people procrastinate are that they may be feeling too tired, they think that they don’t have enough time, something else is going on in their head or the task itself is a problem. The reality is that if you hang around until you’re in the exact frame of mind to do a certain task, you will probably find that the right time never comes and the task never gets finished.
Some common causes of procrastination include not being in the right mood, fear of failure, stress, exhaustion, delaying one task for another one on the to-do-list.
In order to stop procrastinating one needs to identify the problem and the reasons for delaying the task. Some helpful steps to do tasks are
- To break large tasks into smaller ones
- Prioritize what needs to be done first
- Establish a routine
- Narrow your focus
- Reward yourself for meeting the goals
- Hold yourself accountable
- Be consistent
