MOVEMBER to Remember

Movember, the month formerly known as November is more than just seeing whose facial hair grows the fastest. The premise of Movember is transforming the expression of men’s health and to raise awareness of the biggest health risks affecting men- one of which is men’s  mental health.

The best way to celebrate the month is to encourage men to be aware of the risks and to know about the prevention of triggers of their mental health problems.

The stereotypic roles of men teach them to be strong and not to voice their issues.  While women thrush out their issues openly men facing mental health issues have a propensity to tough it out and struggle alone. This makes them more vulnerable to mental health issues like depression, OCD, anxiety, substance abuse and suicide.

Men mostly resort to negative coping strategies like use of drugs and/or social isolation.

Prevention of mental health problems is promising by maintaining health relationship, talking to someone, cry if they feel like instead of holding emotions, and to seek for an advice from a therapist or counselor.
