Beaconhouse College Programme – Potohar Campus commemorated Drug Abuse Awareness & Prevention Day by highlighting that true awareness extends well beyond memorising facts, focusing instead on cultivating deep understanding, recognising subtle warning signs, and knowing when to reach out for support.

Through the Student Wellbeing Programme, students gathered for an interactive session centered on reflection, critical thinking, and open dialogue regarding substance use. The event went past basic statistics, encouraging students to challenge common assumptions and look beyond surface level myths.

Throughout the session, students actively engaged in three core areas of exploration:

Myth vs. Fact: Students actively sorted through interactive cutouts, discussing each statement before deciding where to paste it. This hands-on exercise challenged widespread misconceptions, replaced common rumors with evidence based truths, and encouraged students to rely on clear facts rather than peer assumptions.

Why Do People Use?: Going beyond simple answers, students wrote out their own thoughtful observations to unpack the real root causes of substance use. They reflected on the complex emotional, social, and psychological factors at play, such as peer pressure, stress, curiosity, and coping mechanisms.

Red Flags to Look For: Utilising the Wellbeing Board, key signs were displayed as ongoing reminders to help students recognise early warning signs in themselves or peers, empowering them to take action and offer timely empathy and support.

By creating a safe space to ask difficult questions, the activity highlighted an essential truth: real prevention starts with empathy, critical thought, and reliable information. Together, we remain committed to building a compassionate, informed community where every student feels supported to speak up and reach out.

Think critically. Stay informed. Look beyond the myth.
