“Leadership is not about being in charge. It’s about taking care of those in your charge.” – Simon Sinek.

At Beaconhouse E-11, being a Core 3 school, our journey toward becoming a Lighthouse School had a clear Big Rock: creating a Student Lighthouse Council. This was our top priority, and every step was meticulously designed and executed in alignment with the Leader in Me (LIM) framework, using the rubrics provided on the LIM portal to guide us.

Collecting Student Feedback

The process began with gathering student feedback. A Google Form was shared with all students, containing thoughtfully curated questions directly taken from the Leader in Me portal. These questions were designed to assess leadership potential, engagement with the school’s culture, and understanding of the 8 Habits. Each student’s feedback was carefully analysed using a rigorous rubric-based evaluation to ensure we selected the most promising candidates.

Meeting with the Head of School

Once the candidates were shortlisted, an interactive meeting with our esteemed Head of School, Ms. Samar Azhar, was conducted. This wasn’t just a formal assessment but also an inspiring session where students were encouraged to reflect on their leadership potential, values, and commitment to the school community. Ms. Samar Azhar’s motivation provided them with a renewed sense of purpose and excitement about their roles.

Peer Interview with BCP Karakoram Campus Leaders

To add a unique layer of peer mentorship, the shortlisted candidates were interviewed by the President cosmic equation club
Mr Mahad Faisal, and Vice President cosmic equation club , Ms Mariana, from the BCP Karakoram Campus. This session was deeply inspiring, allowing the students to learn from their peers who had already walked the path of leadership. The candidates were able to exchange ideas, learn about the responsibilities of leadership, and understand the power of collaboration.

Full-Fledged Campaign

The selected candidates then launched into a full-fledged campaign. With passion and enthusiasm, they connected with their peers, sharing their ideas and vision for the Student Lighthouse Council. Alongside this, another Google Form was shared specifically with Grades 4 and 5 for the election of House Captains and Vice Captains. The candidates gave speeches during school assemblies, showcasing their public speaking skills and leadership potential.

E-Voting

In keeping with our commitment to sustainability and the Green Drive, we opted for an eco-friendly solution: e-voting. The entire school from Grades 1 to 5 participated in the elections through this seamless, digital process. The excitement and engagement among the students were palpable as they took on their role as active participants in the decision-making process.

Forming the Lighthouse Council and Ambassadors

Once the e-voting results were in, the executive posts for the Student Lighthouse Council were announced, and ambassadors were formed to guide different leadership initiatives. However, a major step remained: selecting Lighthouse members from each grade, including Grades 1 to 5. This was the first time younger students were invited to be part of the Council, ensuring leadership opportunities for all.

In an effort to promote inclusivity and shared leadership, we implemented a rotating system for leadership roles. Every month, a new student from each class would wear the sash and take on leadership responsibilities, creating an environment where every student had the chance to shine. This process was carried out using another Google Form, allowing every class to participate in the selection. Again, candidates were evaluated against the LIM rubric, ensuring a fair and objective selection process.

The Investiture Ceremony

With the selection process complete, the Student Lighthouse Council was ready for its formal debut. Our school has implemented a dynamic system focused on the Five Paradigms of the Leader in Me framework, cultivating the development of the Lighthouse Council. At the heart of this initiative is our belief that everyone is a leader, empowering students and staff alike to realize their potential and lead with purpose.

The investiture ceremony marked this significant milestone. Parents were invited to witness their children stepping into leadership roles, and the event was graced by several distinguished guests, including Mr. Qaiser, CEO Inspire Pakistan, Ms. Mahreen Qazi, Manager  Parent Relations Beaconhouse North, Ms. Maria Faisal, Head BCP Karakoram Campus, and our LIM coach from Franklin Covey, Ms. Asiya. The ceremony was a grand celebration of student leadership, featuring speeches, refreshments, and proud moments as the students received their sashes.

This journey was not just about creating a Student Lighthouse Council but about embedding leadership in every student, making them feel like integral leaders in our school community.

As the event drew to a close, the choir took the stage, filling the air with a powerful rendition of a Leader in Me song. Their voices harmonized beautifully, resonating with the core values of our program. With each note, they celebrated the essence of leadership, unity, and personal growth.

In a crescendo of inspiration, they concluded by singing all the habits, reminding everyone of the transformative principles that guide us. The heartfelt performance not only uplifted spirits but also reinforced our shared commitment to embodying these habits in our daily lives. As the final notes lingered, the audience was left inspired, energized, and ready to embrace the leader within each of us.

After the ceremony, parents engaged in meaningful reflections using the Circle of Control and Circle of No Control tools. This exercise allowed them to identify the aspects of their influence in supporting their children’s leadership journey while acknowledging elements beyond their control.

Through this process, we’ve empowered our students to lead, take ownership, and contribute positively to the culture of our school, fulfilling our vision of becoming a Lighthouse School.
