When I look back at my first year of teaching Kindergarten, I can honestly say it was a rollercoaster filled with nerves, learning curves, and small victories that meant the world to me.

The journey started with a big shift: moving to a new workplace. Leaving behind a place where I had already built a rapport and starting all over again was not easy. It felt like pressing the reset button new people, new expectations, and a completely new environment.

Then came the biggest reality check: meeting parents’ expectations. Every parent looks at you with so much hope in their eyes, and at times I wonder, Will I be able to live up to that? To add to it, I had never taught such young children before. Kindergarten is a world of its own—tiny hands, curious minds, sudden tears, endless questions, and boundless energy. I had to learn quickly how to enter their world and guide them with patience.

The curriculum was another mountain to climb. Balancing lessons, preparing activities, and at the same time arranging events where parents were involved was a huge responsibility. Deadlines always seemed to be around the corner. But what kept me going was the joy of seeing children’s little faces light up during those activities.

One of my personal goals was to create a classroom that felt inclusive, a space where every child felt important. Some children needed more attention than others, and I constantly tried to make sure they never felt left out. It was a challenge to keep the whole class moving at the same pace while also catering to individual needs, but slowly I found my rhythm.

Another struggle I didn’t expect was irregularity in attendance. Every time a child missed school, I had to find ways to help them catch up without making them feel behind. It wasn’t always smooth, but it taught me flexibility.

Through all of this, one thing I’m truly grateful for is the incredible support I received. My colleagues, our coordinator, and my head were always there to guide me, encourage me, and stand by me. They never let me feel like I was facing it all alone, and that made all the difference.

Yes, my first year was full of challenges but it was also full of learning. I’ve realized that every obstacle is just another chance to grow. As I step into a new year, I’m excited to take on new challenges with more confidence, more enthusiasm, and a heart full of hope.

Here’s to another year of teaching, learning, and growing together with my little ones.
