From a Grateful Heart: How the Library Became Our Happy Place

Written by Asma Naz (Mother of Suleiman Ahmad Patel & Subhan Ahmad Patel)

As a parent, there’s no greater joy than watching your child fall in love with learning. For me, that magical moment happened in a quiet corner of Beaconhouse, the school library.

From the very first visit, the library became more than just a room full of books. It became a place where my sons, Suleiman and Subhan, could dream, wonder, and explore without limits. The excitement on their faces as they walked through those doors, it’s something I’ll never forget.

What started as casual visits turned into something truly special. We would spend time together exploring stories, flipping through pages, laughing at silly characters, and sometimes just sitting silently, completely lost in a book. My son Suleiman especially began to shine. His reading improved beautifully, and with every book, his confidence grew. He would rush home, eager to tell me about what he’d read. Slowly, book-borrowing became a weekly tradition that we all looked forward to.

And behind all of this magic was one constant support from the school librarian.

Her warm presence, carefully chosen collection of books, and the thoughtful little touches she brings to the space made it feel like home. The library didn’t just support my sons’ learning, it gave me, as a mother, a chance to be part of their journey in such a meaningful way. For that, I’ll always be grateful.

Thank you, Ma’am Sonia, for turning the library into a place where hearts grow, minds open, and stories stay with us long after the last page.

With all my gratitude,

Asma Naz
