The classroom took centre stage as School Coordinator Ms. Sanaz Nikain led a thought-provoking brainstorming session exploring the interplay of ambience, aesthetics, sustainability, and effective classroom management.
Grounded in Beaconhouse School System (BSS) guidelines and the philosophy of the “Third Teacher,” the session examined how a thoughtfully curated classroom environment can shape student engagement, wellbeing, behaviour, and the overall quality of learning.
Particular emphasis was placed on the creative repurposing of sustainable and recycled materials, purposeful spatial organisation, student ownership, and the creation of uncluttered yet stimulating learning spaces. The discussion encouraged educators to look beyond conventional classroom decoration and consider how every element of the environment can serve a meaningful purpose.
The dialogue moved beyond aesthetics, recognising the classroom as an active participant in the learning experience—one that communicates values, invites curiosity, nurtures belonging, and gives students greater agency within the spaces they inhabit.
Through collaboration, reflection, and creative thinking, the session reinforced the idea that an effective learning environment is not simply designed for students—it is shaped with them, for them, and through their experiences.
