With the overflow of electronic and smart gadgets in our lives: it has become toilsome for parents to inculcate reading habit among their children. Keeping in mind all the immense benefits which reading habit can instil in young lives; we have to make sure that our children develop this habit since a very early childhood. Following tips can help the elders in fostering this remunerative habit among kids.
Start with a favourite topic:
Bring home some books about the topic which your kid loves and is obsessed about. It can be football, wrestling, video games, music, biography of a favourite player etc.
Choose easier book:
At the beginning, make them read the easier and comparatively smaller books then getting the hard one while they are yet developing the habit of reading.
Create a Reading Space:
Have a special place, away from hustle and daily noises where you and your child can sit and read every day with the least amount of distraction.
Set a Reading Time:
Make sure to have a special reading time every day when you and your child will drop everything and read. It can be before going to bed, in the afternoon or any other time of your choice. However this timing should be followed religiously.
Target pages per day:
Starting with smaller number of pages, make sure that you and your child read a particular number of pages every day. Keep increasing the number of pages as the child starts enjoying reading.
Use Visual indicators:
Children enjoy something more if its associated with some visual indicators. You can have a small glass in which the child can put a marble every time he completed his day’s reading task. Similar reading indicators can be

Have discussion about the read pages:
After completing daily reading task, discuss that with your child, it will help them to remember the information and how to retell things they have read.
Reading habit is the best investment of time and it’s the greatest gift you can give to your children and they always will be thankful to you for developing this habit in them.
