An Initiation:
As tricky as it sounds, brain drain is an informal term for mass emigration of highly qualified personnel from a country. Human Capital is considered to be the most crucial asset of any state. The net benefits of human capital for the receiving country is called brain gain. On the contrary, brain drain refers to the loss of human capital in the form of immigration from a particular region.
Brain Drain in Pakistan:
Speaking about Pakistan, brain drain is one of the most threatening problem that our economy is facing. The rising scale of educated youth either refers to work temporarily or settle permanently in first world countries. It is what they are usually suggested by their elders too. According to the figures, Pakistan produces approximately 33,000 doctors annually, out of which, 40% of the doctors migrate and settle abroad.
Causes leading to Brain Drain:
There are several reasons that lead to brain drain, including meager sense of security, limited access to healthcare and political instability. I, being a part of workforce of my country, cannot deny the fact that one has to go through unbeatable series of challenges in order to gain economic and financial growth here.
The Silver Lining:
Nevertheless, statistics proof that Pakistan provides one of the most reasonable, yet, talented workforce in the world. Pakistan’s young, tech savvy youth is already contributing to the digital world through the most common online channels as Fiver and YouTube. Pakistan’s youth is propelling the country to new heights. From serving as a driving force in revolutionizing the IT sector to initiating entrepreneurial ventures that are game changers, the nation owes a lot to its younger lot that currently makes up 68% of the total population.
The Dilemma:
Restating the dilemma of brain drain, I cannot help acknowledging the expanding growth opportunities that first world countries are providing. Nonetheless, Pakistan itself is a land of creating a fortune, where we cannot only explore our best-fit career goals, but also achieve a content living. Above all, it is high time for great minds of our youth to return HOME!
