Imagine a world where everyone around you feels truly important and cared for. This is Global Dignity Day! It was not a dull assembly with lots of speeches at our school. Instead, it was a super fun day filled with kindness, fairness, and good vibes!
In my opinion, dignity means treating everyone around us with respect, from our Principal and teachers to our bus drivers, janitors, and classmates.
We began the morning by writing thank-you cards for the school staff who work really hard behind the scenes. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed seeing my custodian smile when I gave him a card that I had made myself!
In class, we sat together in a circle to share stories about how we had been made to feel included in a group or how we had stood up for someone who was being bullied on the playground.
I understood that dignity is not about fancy clothes or getting perfect grades in tests. It is simply about being kind and doing the right thing for others. Some easy ways to show dignity are sharing markers, listening when someone else in your class speaks, and inviting a new person to play tag.
Dignity should be more than just a one-day celebration. It should become a habit, just like brushing your teeth or doing your homework. Our whole school would be a much better place if we treated everyone with kindness and respect every day!
