Salutations, my name is Mahnoor Naqvi, I’m currently pursuing my second year of O levels – Cambridge at Beaconhouse Johar Town Girls Campus. Recently I have won Beaconhouse International Students Convention, securing 1st position at Regional Punjab level followed by the active membership in the Pakistan Model UN circuit for over 3 years which has given me the hedonistic pleasure of winning over 4 Best delegate awards, numerous shielded awards which includes institutional best delegate awards; a proud talisman for our campus.

Model UN is a creative and promethean platform to amplify your voice, magnify your views and project as well as accept dichotomous views, opinions and understandings, which is a motive and rationale as per why I participate in Model UN.

Given the opportunity to discuss a crucial global adversity – “Gender Inequality and its role in curtailing economic development”, I have a chance to display awareness and strong opinion. Gender Inequality is concern which has coexisted amongst us for hundreds of years, and yet it is still unspoken of and still unaddressed – as a result of being dragged on it has expanded into multiple domains of our surroundings which includes the economic domain most particularly. Thousands of women in Pakistan are denied their right of security and equal opportunities in the work market and face discrimination solely on the basis of their gender, it is not only the proclamation of the International law but also our Sunnah to provide women with opportunities to find a source of income.

Gender Inequality is reinforced by multiple factors which includes; Patriarchal prejudice, toxic masculinity, cultural norms, and institutional negligence. This results in brutal outcomes encasing Gender based violence, femicide, honor killing, genital mutilation, gender divides in work markets and much more.

Neglecting this dilemma is only going to make this global sphere an insecure and unjust place for our legacies, we must pay more attention to the minute details of this adversity and its little factors and spread awareness, take preventive measures and speak against gender inequality in order to create a comfortable, secure and peaceful environment for our future generations to come.
