The Pre-Nursery students of Beaconhouse Johar Town Junior enjoyed an exciting and hands-on Shopping Activity in the school’s backyard. The entire area was beautifully decorated and transformed into a lively marketplace, giving students a real shopping experience within the school environment.

A Mini Marketplace Comes to Life:

Different shops were set up across the backyard, each arranged with attractive displays to help students understand how a real market looks and works. From colourful objects to daily-use items, every stall was thoughtfully designed to engage young learners and spark curiosity.

Learning Through Play: Exploring the Shops:

Students eagerly visited a variety of shops, experiencing the joy of choosing items and placing them in their small carts. Some of the popular stalls included:

  • Stationery Shop: Filled with colours, paints, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, and small toys that instantly caught the students’ attention.
  • Snacks & Treats Shop: Stocked with cupcakes, cookies, juices, milk boxes, and other delicious treats.
  • Fruits & Vegetables Shop: Displaying apples, bananas, oranges, tomatoes, and other fresh produce to build awareness about healthy food choices.
  • Books Corner: A cosy area where students explored storybooks and picture books of their choice.

Understanding Money: Cash Counters in Action:

To reinforce the concept of buying and selling, cash counters were set up where students used pretend money. They selected their favourite items, placed them in their carts, and then went to the cashier. By giving money and receiving items, students learned:

  • How to make a purchase
  • The role of a cashier
  • The idea of exchanging money for goods

A Joyful Learning Experience:

Students had a wonderful time exploring shops, making choices, and enjoying the entire process of shopping. Their excitement, confidence, and active participation reflected how play-based learning helps build real-life skills. The activity not only strengthened their understanding of shopping but also enhanced their communication, decision-making, and social interaction.

The day ended with happy smiles and fulfilled hearts as the little shoppers proudly carried their items back to class—making it a memorable learning experience for all.
