We won’t have a society, if we destroy the environment”

(Margaret Mead)

A habitat is the natural environment of a plant or animal. A habitat must provide everything a plant or animal needs to survive. All habitats must provide; food, nutrients; water; shelter; space. Different animals will require different things from their habitat:

Students of grade I worked in groups of four to create different environments and habitats like; deserts, Polar Regions, Coral Reef and Forests.

Students were provided with especially designed areas depicting each environment which heightened their interest toward the activity. They wore headbands of their chosen environment. They concocted different environments beautifully using old shoe boxes. First they wrapped the show boxes neatly with colored glazed papers. Once the shoe box was wrapped completely, they selected the paper and plastic animals and plants for that environment and arranged them beautifully in the shoe box to give it a real look. Finally students analysed their peers’ work and commented on the same.
