“Steam Project Grade 1”

Environnmental Education gives the children the opportunity to perform what they are learning. These projects are helpful in enhancing their learning and also developing interest in the subject.

Steam Project of “Forces and Energy” were done by the students in the first week of March.

The project was to create a unique piece of art by moving paint using force of push and pull. The attainment target was that forces can change the movement of an object as well as shape of an object.

Following the outline of the steam project, the teacher first introduced the project to the students. She also shared the questions that will be asked at the end of the project. They were also instructed that they have to fill a peer review as well. The project was done in groups. Students were provided with the resource as mentioned in the outlines. The children were quite excited as activities like these provide them with their own ideas.

Different stations were set up with different materials that the group of students had to choose. The first station had a piece of cardboard which they dipped in paint and created their unique piece of art. The second station was explained that the group had to dip, smear, dab and fling the paint and then explain the result.

Lastly, a discussion was held with the students evaluating their learning.  It was asked what they have found about forces and the relationship of applied force, and the design created. Theya also filled peer assessment where they wrote what they liked about their fellow groups work.

The project was informative and an innovative way of learning for the students. They created different pieces of art using the forces and with the resources.
