Time Travel Through History – Discovering Ancient Civilizations
The Grade 5 E-SUPPER Project-Based Learning culmination was nothing short of breathtaking—a journey through time where history came alive through research, creativity, and confident storytelling. This immersive project invited students to travel back in time and explore the lives, cultures, and legacies of Gandhara, Ancient Rome, and Ancient Greece.
Through extensive research and inquiry, students uncovered the defining features of these ancient civilizations—their governance, architecture, daily life, art, beliefs, and innovations. The main ground transformed into a living museum as students proudly showcased their learning to parents and visitors.
One of the most captivating elements of the exhibition was the way students embodied history. Dressed as citizens of Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece, they confidently explained the attributes of each civilization, engaging their audience with clarity and enthusiasm. Parents were left in awe as young historians spoke with authority, insight, and pride.
The visual displays were equally impressive. Detailed models of the Colosseum, temples, and historical structures reflected exceptional craftsmanship and understanding. Handmade artefacts, jewellery, and cultural representations beautifully illustrated the lifestyle and artistic traditions of these ancient societies, truly taking the breath of the audience away.
Interdisciplinary learning was at the heart of this project. In English, students expressed their understanding creatively by writing poems inspired by Ancient Greece, blending historical knowledge with poetic imagery and emotion. The project not only deepened content knowledge but also strengthened communication, creativity, and critical thinking skills.
This E-SUPPER culmination stood as a powerful example of student-led, experiential learning, where the past was not memorised but experienced. Our Grade 5 learners proved that when given ownership of learning, they can connect deeply with history and bring it to life in extraordinary ways.
