When experience meets purpose, transformation begins.
Under the inspiring IMPACT 20 initiative of the Beaconhouse School System (BSS), learning stepped beyond classrooms and campuses to create ripples of change where they matter most—in the hands of fellow educators.
Recently, the dedicated teachers of Beaconhouse School System, Civil Lines Campus, Rawalpindi, carried this vision forward by conducting a dynamic professional development session for the teachers of Quaid-e-Azam International School. What unfolded was not just a training—it was a celebration of collaboration, reflection, and renewed belief in the power of teaching.
Building Connections Before Content
The session began exactly where meaningful learning should—with people.

Through energising ice-breakers like Two Truths and a Lie, entry tickets, and KWL charts, participants were immediately drawn in. Laughter blended with learning as prior knowledge was
activated, comfort zones dissolved, and a culture of openness was established. From the very first moment, teachers were not passive listeners—they were active learners.
🔄 From Chalk-and-Talk to Think-and-Do
A powerful shift took place as teachers explored the contrast between teacher-centred and student-centred classrooms. Role-plays, whiteboard challenges, a creative shop monopoly game, and a hands-on math subtraction activity brought theory to life.![]()
These experiences clearly demonstrated how engagement, choice, and interaction can turn lessons into learning journeys—proving that when students take ownership, classrooms come alive.
📚 Experiential Learning: Engaging Minds, Inspiring Futures
The English training segment was a standout, centred on the theme “Experiential Learning: Engaging Minds, Inspiring Futures.” Using Kolb’s Experiential Learning Cycle, facilitators skillfully connected experience, reflection, conceptual understanding, and application.
Video-based learning and a thoughtfully executed fishbowl activity encouraged deep reflection, meaningful dialogue, and collaborative thinking—showing teachers how learning becomes

powerful when students are given space to think, speak, and reflect.
🎯 Assessment That Moves Learning Forward
The session concluded with a strong and practical focus on Assessment for Learning (AFL)—the heartbeat of effective teaching.
Through sample checking, constructive “sandwich” feedback, gallery walks, and classroom-ready AFL strategies, teachers explored ways to make assessment support learning rather than simply measure it.
The message was clear: feedback is most powerful when it guides, encourages, and empowers.
