In Nursery, it works just as well \u2014 orally and with pictures, no writing required.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Channels curiosity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2014 turns constant &#8220;why&#8221; questions into shared exploration<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Builds early metacognition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014 pointing to &#8220;I already know this&#8221; is a first step in thinking about thinking<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nurturestore.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/how-use-kwl-chart-children.png?fit=450%2C650&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"What Is a KWL Chart? Meaning, Example &amp; How to Use It\" width=\"208\" height=\"300\" \/><\/span><br \/>\n<b>Creates a visible record<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014 a chart on the wall becomes a reference point across the week<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Grows language<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2014 low-pressure way to practice vocabulary and sentence structure<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Gives closure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2014 the &#8220;L&#8221; column shows children their questions led somewhere<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Putting Them Together<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Use K and W (discussed as a group, drawn or spoken) to kick off a mini-project \u2014 e.g., &#8220;How do plants grow?&#8221; leads into planting seeds, observing, drawing. The L column wraps it up with what the group discovered.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Bottom line:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> PBL doesn&#8217;t replace direct teaching \u2014 it makes learning active instead of passive. And KWL proves this approach works even before children can read or write.
