Leadership is not about having a title; it is about taking responsibility, making a difference, and inspiring others. In line with the Leader in Me philosophy, our school recently brought together the enthusiastic members of the Lighthouse Student Team for an engaging Roles and Responsibilities Alignment Session.
The session marked an exciting step towards building a culture of student leadership, ownership, and shared responsibility. Each team member explored their strengths, understood their leadership role, and selected responsibilities that align with their interests and abilities. With roles officially assigned, our young leaders are now ready to take ownership of their missions and contribute meaningfully to the school community.
What Makes the Lighthouse Team Special?
Inspired by the Leader in Me framework, the Lighthouse Team represents students who lead by example and help create a positive, inclusive, and proactive school environment. Just as a lighthouse guides ships towards safety, our student leaders aim to guide, encourage, and inspire their peers through positive actions.
Their responsibilities go beyond carrying out assigned duties. They are encouraged to:
Be Proactive: Take initiative and lead through positive actions.
Begin with the End in Mind: Set clear goals and work towards a shared vision.
Put First Things First: Prioritise responsibilities and manage time effectively.
Think Win-Win: Build teamwork and promote mutual respect.
Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood: Listen to others and value different perspectives.
Synergise: Collaborate, appreciate individual strengths, and achieve more together.
Sharpen the Saw: Continue learning, growing, and developing leadership skills.
Small Roles, Big Impact!
From promoting school values and encouraging student participation to supporting school initiatives and creating a sense of belonging, every Lighthouse Team member has an important part to play. Through these opportunities, students develop confidence, communication, collaboration, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Most importantly, they learn that leadership is not limited to a position or a badge; it is reflected in everyday choices, responsible behaviour, and the willingness to make a positive difference.
With clearly defined roles, a shared purpose, and plenty of enthusiasm, our Lighthouse Student Team is officially ready to shine!
Because when students are empowered to lead, they don’t just become better leaders; they help build a better school community.
Here’s to leading with purpose, inspiring through action, and making every contribution count!
