What Is Student Agency? by Ms. Sana Rehan

Student agency means giving students the power to make choices, share their opinions, and take responsibility for their learning and school environment. It’s all about students having a voice in decisions that affect them — in the classroom and beyond.

When students have agency, they don’t just receive knowledge; they actively participate in creating it. They set goals, make decisions, and reflect on their learning to become more confident and independent.

At our school, we believe every child is a leader in their own way. We encourage students to express their ideas, take initiative, and work together to solve problems. This helps them develop important life skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, communication, and empathy.

Student agency can be seen in many school activities — for example:
🎯 Students electing class or council representatives.
💡 Suggesting ideas for projects, assemblies, or school improvement.
🤝 Collaborating in group work and helping peers learn.
🌱 Taking part in community service or environmental projects.

By practising agency, our students learn that their actions and voices can make a difference. They grow into responsible, confident, and compassionate citizens — ready to lead and inspire others.

At Beaconhouse Elementary Campus, Jamshed Road, we are proud to nurture student agency every day through opportunities that promote leadership, creativity, and self-expression. 🌟
