Whenever we talk about the person who dreamed of having our own separate state as Muslims after witnessing the tyranny that the Muslims of subcontinent went through; only one name come to our minds: Sir Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Allama Iqbal not only awakened the Muslims to take stand for themselves and strengthen their unity but also wrote numerous Urdu poems and contributed to Urdu Literature. His work serves as the benchmark in Urdu poetry and sheds light on the problems of that era along with the solutions he provided as a well-known philosopher of his time.
All around the world Iqbal day is celebrated on 9th November which is declared as a public holiday also. Gulshan Middle 1 recognized the need of instilling in the students the same essence of unity and making them familiar with the contributions of Allama Iqbal. Thus, as a part of “Urdu Hafta e Adab” elocution contest was organized in which students from all the levels came up on the stage and recited famous poems of Allama Iqbal such as: Makra or Makhi, Pahar or Gullehri, Hamdardi etc. Students of class VIII also prepared the recitation of verses of the two well-known poem of Allama Iqbal; Shikwa and Jawab e Shikwa. All participants were well versed, rendering their selected poems with great spirit and enthusiasm. They were judged on the basis of confidence, voice, and intonation. The commendable performance of students not only gave a hard time to the judges to make their decisions but also made the show interesting for the audience.

Elocution plays an important role in the formation, articulation and pronunciation of speech and allows students to exhibit their oratory skills. It also facilitates students to develop their self-expression and confidence by helping them to overcome stage fear and promote public speaking. This program undoubtedly served all these purposes and enhanced the love that their beautiful mother tongue deserves.
