Every year GMBK-1 holds Student Council Elections for its students. Student Council is a great way to test students’ leadership skills and help them be more responsible. These skills not only help them later in life but also make them better citizens. It is a chance for students to raise their voices and vote for a leader.
This Student Council Body consisted of Junior Prefects from grade VI, Senior Prefects from grade VII and Head Boy and Head Girl from grades VIII and IX respectively.
There were some steps to the election. First, any student who wished to participate was required to fill a google form uploaded in their BSU Google classrooms. Next, those who had filled the form were called for an interview with their class teachers. The teacher asked them questions such as; “Why have you applied for this position?” And “What would you do if you get elected for this position?” etc. The students were then short-listed and those students were then interviewed by the headmistress, Miss Maliha Noman. The headmistress then selected a few students from each grade and the list of the chosen students was then uploaded in their Google Classrooms along with their assigned symbols. These symbols represented the students throughout the election. Then started the campaign where students made posters, delivered speeches in the assembly, and went out to various classes to spread their message. They also made online posters and videos which were then posted in Google Classrooms and the social media pages of GMBK-1.
In the end, the students made their decisions and voted, over the weekend the votes were added up and the results were announced. Next, there was an Oath Taking Ceremony where the students were given their sashes and the head boy and girl were given their gowns. They all took an oath and were assigned their duties.
This was a wonderful opportunity for the students to test their confidence and skills. It was so amazing having students raise their voices and make decisions. This way students were prepared for the future and became aware of their responsibilities in their environment.
