“A nation’s culture is in the hearts and souls of its people” — Mahatma Gandhi
Culture is the way of life of a society; this refers to the languages, dresses, foods, games, beliefs, etc. Each society has its own unique culture that should be remembered and celebrated by its people. Each year on 14th March, International Cultural Day is celebrated all over the world including our own country Pakistan. A variety of cultures are found all over Pakistan and Beaconhouse Gulshan Middle-1 did its best to celebrate and incorporate all of them in its Cultural Week celebration.
Throughout the week, students practiced cultural games, prepared speeches on Culture Day and practiced for the cultural dance performances. On Thursday, 17th March, all the hard work was put into action. Students dressed up in cultural dresses and in the morning there was a special assembly where the cultural performances were displayed. An informational skit of the most famous poets from different provinces of Pakistan was prepared by the students of grade 8 along with the speeches on the significance of Cultural Day. Throughout the day classes played against each other in cultural games such as Pithoo Baari, Kabaddi, Langri Pala, Kho Kho etc and the winner classes of these games were then awarded certificates. After these games, a dastarkhwan was set up for the students where they sat on the floor mats and shared their traditional and cultural dishes such as Biryani, Handi, Karahi, Kheer etc with their class fellows. Food stalls such as Gola Ganda, Kulfi, Makai and Golgappa and Chaat were also present in the school-ground.
This event was enjoyed thoroughly by the students and teachers who celebrated it with much avidity. Our culture and traditions will always reside in our hearts and we should celebrate them with great enthusiasm.
Long live Pakistan and long live Pakistani Culture!
