Nowadays, young people and kids have been staying at home more often and keeping themselves away from sports. Sports are important for everyone and Beaconhouse always cares for its student’s health and is keen to prepare them for the difficulties ahead. So keeping that in mind, GMBK-1 arranged a one-week sports gala for students to participate in.

This sports gala consisted of different sports played by students of different grades. Everyone was divided into one of the four houses, Tigers (Red House), Jaguars (Yellow House), Leopards (Green House), Panthers (Blue House), and these houses played against each other. There were three rounds of one game (one of the sixth graders, second of seventh graders, and third of 8th and 9th graders.) where they played after school on three respective days. One game was played each week and in the end, the points were added up. The sports played were basketball, throwball/ dodge the ball, and badminton.

During the gala week, students waited till the end of the day and in the home time played against other houses. First was the basketball tournament in which students participated with a lot of excitement and zeal.  Next was the throw ball and dodge the ball tournament for girls where the sixth graders played dodge the

ball while the seventh graders played throw ball. The teams, when waiting for their match, cheered on the teams playing, with great gusto. Lastly, it was the badminton tournament and for this, the sports teachers selected four representatives (2 boys and 2 girls) from each house to play against the other players. The match was indeed very intense and interesting to watch.

In the end, the points were added up, which showed Green house at the top with 1225 points, then red with 900 points, third blue with 850 points, and lastly yellow with 800 points. Nevertheless, the gala served its purpose and students regained interest in the sports and showed a lot of sportsmanship. This was a very exciting event and students are hopeful for another successful event such as this in the upcoming term.
