All around the globe, Iqbal day is celebrated with full zeal and enthusiasm on the 8th of November in the memory of Sir Allama Muhamad Iqbal. Special and noticeable efforts are made by the institutions all around Pakistan in order to promote the poetry of the “Poet of the East” and to enhance the students’ interest in Urdu Literature. Beaconhouse Gulshan Middle I also celebrated Iqbal Day where students of all the levels participated in various activities organized by the management.
These activities included an Urdu elocution contest and a roleplay on Iqbal’s poetry. Students of grade VIs, VIIs and VIIs participated in the elocution contest of poems written by Allama Iqbal for the youth and competed for the rewards. Prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions were distributed amongst the participants. Every contestant did a wonderful job in presenting a piece of poetry written about a hundred years ago, with such beauty that the judges including Syed Sultan Ahmed Naqvi – who is a renowned writer, poet, calligraphist and researcher had a hard time finalizing the positions.
Students of grade IX also presented a lovely role play of the famous poems of Shikwah and Jawab-e-shikwah. The play included three participants from the Shikwah side and three from the Jawab-e-shikwah side. Both sides presented the play in such a way that it looked spectacular and was highly appreciated by the chief guest.
This celebration not only gave the students an opportunity to own their language and develop an interest in it but also encouraged them to express their gratitude to the people who have made great contributions in order to make Urdu flourish as a language; specially Sir Allama Mohammad Iqbal.
