International Dot Day: Celebrating Creativity, Courage and the Power to Make a Mark

Every child has a spark of creativity waiting to be discovered. Sometimes, all it takes is one small dot to help a child believe, “I can create something of my own.”

At Early Years Campus Block 4 Gulshan, we celebrated International Dot Day as an opportunity for our young learners to explore their creativity, express themselves freely and discover the joy of making their own mark.

International Dot Day is inspired by The Dot, the much-loved story by Peter H. Reynolds. The story reminds children that creativity begins with simply having the courage to start. A small dot can become a beautiful piece of art when imagination, confidence and curiosity come together.

Why Do We Celebrate Dot Day at School?

For young children, art is much more than creating a beautiful picture. It helps them develop imagination, confidence, fine-motor skills, decision-making and self-expression. Dot Day gives children the freedom to experiment without worrying about making something “perfect.”

It also reinforces an important message: Every child is creative, and every child has something unique to contribute.

Creativity Across Every Level

At Early Years Campus Block 4 Gulshan, Ms. Imrana Faisal, our Art Teacher, thoughtfully engaged students in level-wise Dot Day activities, giving each age group an opportunity to explore creativity according to their developmental stage.

From experimenting with colours and patterns to creating imaginative dot-inspired artwork, our little artists explored different materials, techniques and ideas. Each activity encouraged children to make choices, try something new and proudly share their creations.

What may have started as a simple dot soon transformed into patterns, colours, shapes and imaginative works of art—showing us that there are endless possibilities when children are given the freedom to create.

Every Dot Tells a Story

Dot Day is a beautiful reminder that creativity does not have one right answer. Every child’s artwork is different because every child sees the world differently.

As educators, our role is to provide children with opportunities to explore, create, experiment and believe in their own abilities.

This Dot Day, our little learners didn’t just make dots—they made their mark!
