Workshop on Active Learning Techniques

It has been an established tradition of Beaconhouse School to afford ample opportunities to its faculty members to learn, unlearn, and relearn through regular training sessions and refreshing workshops, so they may hone their professional traits, and educate learners in an ambiance, highly conducive to learning.

A three hours long session workshop on Active Learning Techniques was conducted on the 18th and 19th of May (Wednesday, Thursday) at Cambridge Campus Gulshan by Ms. Shahina Ahmed, the Senior Mistress. Over 70 faculty members attended these fruitful and productive sessions.

The prime theme was how to apply the techniques and strategies in order to make learning active and effective. In the beginning, Ms. Shahina Ahmed elaborated on the concept of Active Learning and its effectiveness in the classroom. Then, the teachers were divided into six groups (each comprising five members). The first activity was to prepare a presentation that would metaphorically describe the role of a teacher.

After ten minutes, every group came up with their creativity and various aspects of a teacher’s role were highlighted.

Later, each group prepared a model lesson plan in which various techniques for active learning were inculcated. Every plan was critically reviewed by Ms Humera Shahab, the Head of School, and she pinpointed the strengths and weaknesses of each of the lesson plans. Both these activities were interactive and productive as teachers shared their experiences and professional expertise in the plenary phase. The teachers were served refreshments at the end of each session.
