This winter break proved to be an extraordinary and memorable experience, unlike any other in my life. I had the privilege of participating in an educational tour to China organized by our school. The educational tour lasted for ten days, from the 27th of December to the 5th of January. A total of fifty-seven students and teachers from various branches across Pakistan took part in this journey, including sixteen students from Karachi. From our Gulshan Campus, only four students were able to go on the tour, which made the experience even more significant and honorable for us.
The trip was filled with enjoyment, learning, and adventure. Although it was slightly challenging to live independently for ten days without our parents, this experience helped us develop confidence, responsibility, and self-discipline. Throughout the journey, I made new friends who quickly became very close to me, similar to my best friends at home. We shared laughter, stories, and countless unforgettable moments. Most nights, we slept very late, often resting during long bus rides or high-speed bullet train journeys. At the hotel, we enjoyed harmless fun and mischievous activities, which strengthened our friendships and added joy to the trip.
On the day of departure, we met our parents at the airport, where our teachers distributed our passports and travel documents. We traveled via Emirates Airlines and reached Beijing, the capital city of China, at 3:45 pm. Beijing is a city rich in history, culture, and political importance. Our first visit was to Xiushui Street Mansion, a famous shopping center known for its variety of local and international goods. After spending two hours there, we checked into the Metro Park Lido Hotel. Although the rooms were designed for two people, four of us stayed together, which made our stay more enjoyable and lively. On the 29th of December, we woke up early at 4:00 am and had breakfast at 6:00 am before traveling by bus to the Great Wall of China. The Great Wall is one of the most iconic historical structures in the world and a symbol of China’s strength and ancient civilization. Despite the extreme cold, with temperatures around minus ten degrees Celsius, climbing the Great Wall was one of the most breathtaking and rewarding experiences of my life. After returning to the meeting point, we attended a cultural show that showcased Chinese talent and creativity. The performances included thrilling bicycle stunts and impressive displays of flexibility by skilled performers, leaving the audience amazed.

Later that day, we visited the Embassy of Pakistan in China, where we had the honor of meeting the Pakistani Ambassador. We stood respectfully and listened attentively as we were guided about the importance of education, international relations, and future opportunities for Pakistani students abroad. In the evening, we visited Wangfujing Street, one of Beijing’s most famous commercial streets, known for its vibrant atmosphere and local food culture. That night, we returned to the hotel but barely slept, as we enjoyed music and interacted with friendly tourists from different countries, which made the experience culturally enriching.
On the third day in Beijing, we visited several historical and educational landmarks, including the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and the Science and Technology Museum. The Temple of Heaven is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where ancient emperors once prayed for good harvests. The Forbidden City, a former imperial palace, reflects China’s royal history and architectural excellence, while Tiananmen Square is one of the largest public squares in the world. The Science and Technology Museum provided insight into China’s advancements in science and innovation.
The following day, we traveled to Xi’an via a high-speed bullet train. Xi’an is one of China’s oldest cities and is famous for being the starting point of the ancient Silk Road. We explored the Ancient City Wall and checked into the Xi’an Tintimes Hotel. Snowfall was frequent in Xi’an, creating a magical and serene environment. During our stay, we visited the Terracotta Warriors Museum, which houses thousands of life-sized statues built to guard China’s first emperor. We also visited the Great Mosque of Xi’an, an important symbol of Islamic culture in China, and the lively Muslim Street, known for its traditional food and markets.
On New Year’s Eve, a group of about fifteen students, including myself, went outside late at night while others were asleep. Although the celebrations were simple, watching fireworks together made the moment meaningful and memorable.
After three days in Xi’an, we traveled to Shanghai by bullet train. Shanghai is a modern and dynamic city known for its skyline and economic importance. There, we visited Yu Garden, Jin Mao Tower, Shanghai Tower, People’s Square, Tianzifang, Town God’s Temple Bazaar, The Bund, and Nanjing Road. We also enjoyed a scenic cruise on the Huangpu River, which offered stunning views of the city’s illuminated skyline.
One of the most exciting days of the tour was spent at Disneyland in Shanghai. We enjoyed several thrilling rides, including roller coasters, and watched a magical Disney character show followed by spectacular fireworks. Additionally, we visited the Shanghai Museum to learn more about Chinese history and art and went shopping at AP Plaza Market.
Finally, we traveled to the airport and flew to Dubai, where we stayed for six hours before continuing our journey to Karachi. After approximately three more hours of flight, we arrived home and reunited with our parents. While we were happy to return safely, we also felt emotional and saddened because we had to part ways with friends from different cities, whom we might never meet again.
In conclusion, this educational tour was a life-changing experience filled with learning, cultural exposure, and unforgettable memories. It allowed us to explore the rich history, traditions, and modern achievements of China while teaching us independence, teamwork, and appreciation for different cultures. I am extremely grateful to Beaconhouse for organizing such a remarkable and inspiring trip, which I will cherish throughout my life.
