Our Grade 2 students enjoyed a very special and meaningful learning experience as part of their project “Animals Are Our Friends.” We invited a representative from a local animal shelter to conduct an engaging session on kindness, empathy, and responsible care for animals.

The shelter home team brought along a friendly cat, which immediately captured the children’s attention and excitement. The presenter explained, in simple and relatable words, how animals depend on us for love, safety, and gentle handling. She demonstrated how to approach pets calmly, how to feed them, and how to understand their basic needs.
The children listened with great curiosity and interacted confidently, asking questions and sharing their own experiences with animals. Many of them were delighted to pet the animals and observe their behaviour closely. The session not only brought smiles to their faces but also helped them develop a deeper connection with the idea that animals, too, deserve kindness and respect.

The purpose of this activity was to nurture empathy in young minds and to build awareness about animal welfare. By meeting real animals and learning from a shelter representative, the students discovered that compassion is an important value—not just toward people, but toward all living beings.
It was a joyful day filled with learning, love, and meaningful lessons that the children will carry with them for a long time.
