As part of our ongoing commitment to student wellbeing, Grade 3 recently had the wonderful opportunity to attend an insightful nutrition session conducted by Dr. Hamna. The session aimed to help young learners understand the importance of eating right and making smart food choices from an early age.
She began by explaining why a healthy diet matters for growing children — from having enough energy to play and study, to building strong bodies and minds. The students were walked through the different food groups that should be a part of their everyday meals, including fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, proteins, and dairy, with each group’s special role in keeping our bodies healthy and strong explained along the way. The session also covered foods that can be harmful to our health when eaten too often, such as sugary snacks, fried foods, and processed items with too much salt or sugar. In simple, relatable terms, the children were helped to understand how these choices can affect their energy, growth, and overall wellbeing.
The highlight of the session was a fun, hands-on activity where students were asked to build their own healthy plates using a variety of food items provided to them. Working with excitement and curiosity, the children picked and arranged different foods, thinking carefully about balance and nutrition as they built their plates. This interactive exercise brought the lesson to life, allowing students to apply what they had just learned in a practical and memorable way.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the session and came away with a much deeper understanding of healthy food choices. Through an engaging approach and the hands-on activity, Grade 3 learners now have a clearer picture of what it means to eat well — a lesson we hope they will carry with them well beyond the classroom. A big thank you to Dr. Hamna for such a valuable and engaging session, and we look forward to more such initiatives that support our students’ health and wellbeing.
