Math can be related to our lives; it teaches us to always be careful with the signs. (Anonymous)

The only way to do great work is to love what you do. In daily life Math seems everywhere and it develops students’ problem-solving skills.

At kindergarten stage the students start from their basic skills and reach up to mastery level using CPA (Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract). CPA is a system of learning that uses physical and visual aids to build a child’s understanding of abstract topics.

CPA approach is an approach in learning Mathematics which is done in stages. Each stage is built on the previous stage and must therefore be taught sequentially. The CPA approach consists of three stages of learning namely learning through physical manipulation of concrete object, followed by learning through pictorial representation of manipulation of concrete objects, followed by learning through pictorial representation of manipulation of concrete objects and ends with solving problems using abstract notation.

CPA approach in dealing with students’ spatial sense abilities, creating or designing objects and finding solution to a mathematical problem by imagining objects or their number proportionally.

The KG students participated in the activities based on CPA approach where a lot of resources were required such as 10 frames, colored counters, number equations and balancing scales. Students experienced hands on and understood the concepts.
