I don’t know, but I’ve been told
Someone here is _____ years old!
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday to _________, Happy Birthday to you!
Birthdays are a special time of the year. They remind us that we’re growing older, but they also symbolise how far we’ve come. They’re a cause for celebration and a great excuse to show someone how much you appreciate them. There are definitely some things to consider when deciding how you want to handle student’s birthdays in their classroom including cost, school/district policies, rules on food/allergies, and COVID-19 protocols. These birthday celebration ideas are inexpensive and can easily fit into our school’s timetable.
When I was in elementary school, one day when one of the girl told our teacher that it was her birthday. We sang “Happy Birthday” to her when the time was right and all done, nothing else. Maybe, intentionally, there was nothing ever planned. I’ll never know.
Everyone deserves to feel great on their birthday, so while keeping all these things in mind, Beaconhouse Qasimabad Campus created a list of simple yet meaningful ways to celebrate each of our students on their special day.
So, what’s a teacher to do?
Start by preparing a DIY Birthday Calendar right before the new session starts, according to the theme of the classroom ; one of the sample shared below.
Have a look on Birthday Calendar each month and note down who’s birthday coming soon. For those students who have birthdays when school is not in session, we celebrate their birthdays on the closest month that school is in session. Next, communicate with parents if they are pleased to celebrate their child’s in the school, once they acknowledge start the preparations.
Birthday boy or girl comes in colourful dress, he or she got to bring in treats (usually cake, cupcakes, or cookies, party hats) for the whole class to share. Surprise your birthday student by decorating a small area of classroom. Use streamers, butcher paper, and other items to make the area stand out and tell everyone in the class that it’s a special day. All sing “Happy Birthday,” and the birthday person was made to feel very special for a day. Even DIY birthday card is prepared a day before on the birthday person’s choice. For e.g. spider-man, doll, unicorn, animals etc. Another way to alert everyone to a birthday is by having the birthday boy or girl wear a special birthday crown, tiara, hat, or ribbon. Then, everyone around school will want to wish them a happy birthday, too.
At Beaconhouse Qasimabad Campus we value the importance of celebrating children’s birthdays as it helps to establish a strong sense of identity within a child. It also helps establish a sense of belonging to their school environment. Being the focus of a celebration can help boost a child’s self-esteem and help them form strong friendships in the classroom. These relationships can last throughout the year and help kids foster and develop strong social skills.
Whatever way you choose to celebrate in your classroom – student birthdays are sure to be much anticipated!
