A kind word, appreciation, or simply being asked, \u201cAre you okay?\u201d made us feel seen and valued. I have carried this feeling with me throughout my teaching journey. I have always tried to make my students feel that they matter\u2014not only for their marks, but for who they are. I try to notice their little habits, their behaviour, their interests and even the small changes in them.<\/p>\n
I remember a student who was going through a difficult time because of a tragedy at home. She had become very quiet and had lost her confidence. I started paying a little more attention to her, talking to her, noticing her small efforts and appreciating the things she did well. Slowly, I saw a change in her. She started participating again and gradually became more confident. It made me realise once again that children do not always need big interventions. Sometimes, they simply need someone to notice that something has changed and to make them feel that they are not alone.<\/p>\n
As teachers, we can bring this into our everyday classrooms. Notice the child who is unusually quiet, the student who is trying despite struggling, or the child who has made even a small improvement. Appreciate the effort, not just the result. A simple \u201cI noticed your effort today\u201d can mean much more than we realise. When children feel that their teacher genuinely sees them, they become more comfortable, more willing to participate and more confident in themselves.<\/p>\n
Our students may forget many of the lessons we teach, but they often remember how we made them feel. They remember the teacher who listened, encouraged them and believed in them. Sometimes, the biggest difference we make in a child’s life begins with something very small: taking the time to notice.<\/p>\n
