World Diabetes Day: Let’s take a pledge to quit sugar.
World Diabetes Day (WDD) was created in 1991 by IDF and the World Health Organization in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by Diabetes. In 2014, 8.5% of adults aged 18 years and older had Diabetes. In 2019, Diabetes was the direct cause of 1.5 million deaths, of which 48% were under 70 years old.
The World Diabetes Day campaign aims to be the:
- Platform to promote IDF advocacy efforts throughout the year.
- Global driver to promote the importance of taking coordinated and concerted actions
There are many ways to defy Diabetes as a critical global health issue and get involved in the campaign. We, at BCP, planned to raise awareness regarding Diabetes by requesting the principal, Mr. Kashif, to conduct a session.
It was an interactive session where Mr. Kashif explained different types of Diabetes. He also explained how a healthy lifestyle could prevent or prolong Diabetes. Mr. Kashif also mentioned that Diabetes is a significant cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, stroke, and lower limb amputation. The session ended with Mr. Kashif promoting the importance of checking their BMI, eating healthy, and walking a few miles daily.
