University admission is something that constantly sways in the back of the mind of each student. Be it deciding on one’s top-choice institutions or meeting deadlines, the process is rigorous. To set students up for as much ease and flow as possible, Beaconhouse regularly arranges sessions with renowned career counselors, hailing from various countries and backgrounds, so that students can continue to reap maximum benefit from their college years. A virtual Study Canada Session, hosted by Ms. Helen Khan, was thus organized on 21st September 2022 for A-Level students.
Ms. Helen Khan is an International Student Recruiter, with more than 30 years of experience in the field. She has in-depth knowledge of different educational trajectories in both Canada and Pakistan. Her interest in helping students end up in their desired, top-notch universities was well-reflected in the session.
The session commenced with the host discussing finances, the elephant in the room. Both, merit-oriented and need-based scholarships were discussed. Besides, co-op programs (the highlight of several Canadian universities) were explained. Hereby, students are presented with the opportunity to pursue careers closely related to their fields while completing their academics. This serves as an immaculate method to not only gain valuable work experience, but also explore the dynamics of the Canadian labor market.
Following that, Ms. Helen Khan gave a thorough presentation covering the top 4 Canadian universities, including the University of Alberta, University of Waterloo,University of Manitoba and the University of Trent. Making the session even more insightful, the salient features of each institution and its home city were elaborated. From inclusiveness & diversity to job markets, multiple aspects were brought to the table. Moreover, the array of undergraduate programs offered by each institution was put forth. Reminders for important upcoming deadlines were rendered. The counselor also guided the pupils regarding prerequisite subjects of many majors. This was especially informative for the fresh AS students. To wrap up the meeting, an engaging doubt-clearing session took place whereby individual queries were addressed.
Crucial sessions with experienced career counselors take a big step forward in helping students navigate their way forward. We hope the students continue to show interest in and make the most out of these valuable sessions!
