The true essence of studying business materializes in first-hand experiences, as students try to navigate through the challenges posed and brainstorm tactics to ensure their startup sails smoothly. Deriving lessons, Beaconhouse Qasimabad Campus held its annual Bake & Sale activity, organized by its A-Level students on 15th September 2022. The purpose coupled with it was to generate funds for the aid of flood victims. With a major chunk of Pakistan under water, using one’s knowledge and privilege to create ease should be a top priority, and this was well-realized by the student body. The activity also sent home the notion that running a business goes beyond the horizons of cutting costs and maximizing profits. It is a powerful tool one can use to devise strategies and maximize welfare in such calamitous times.
Coming up with a fruitful business plan was the favorite topic of conversation in the week leading to the event. Each student could be seen trying their level-best to achieve a good common ground with their peers, ensure good communication, uphold the ethics of running a business, while also finding pathways to cut down costs, maximize profits and agree on reasonable pricing policies.
A wide of array of choices was presented in the menu, including Momos, Pizza, Brownies, Waffles and Ice-creams, Gol Gappay, Shakes, Barbecue, Rolls and Sandwiches, to name a few. The number of choices presented led to each team also elevating their marketing game, with engaging posters adorning all stalls. Be it the appetizers, main courses or refreshers, each stall busied itself with attracting as much traffic as possible. The juniors could be seen rife with excitement, trying to find spots in the queue that would get them their meals the earliest.
Moreover, the cooperation between different stalls was worth witnessing. It fostered a sense of healthy competition and closely tied together the student body. We hope the lessons learnt through this experience would be embedded in the students’ permanent memory, and prove to be a beacon of light for them as they battle hurdles in their future endeavors.
