Language is a vehicle of inquiry, understanding and communication. There can be no learning without it.  Individuals use language not only to make sense of the world around them, but also to make sense of their place in the world and as a means of expression, interaction and exploration.

Primary school teachers at BSS Steel Town Campus create a supportive learning environment and encourage reflective thought and action to ensure that learning takes place. They use different teaching and learning strategies for teaching English language.

Students of class 2 learnt procedure writing through firsthand experience. Procedure is a set of detailed instructions that tell the reader how to complete a procedure or task step by step. All examples of procedural writing are informational and directional.

Criteria for writing a procedure:

·  Title

·   2 sub-headings: Ingredients in list form with quantity of each and Method written as a sequence of steps

·  Use of time and sequence vocabulary using language of instruction to write each step,

·  Use of present tense

Teachers planned learning experience for students where they worked in small groups to make sandwiches and wrote the procedure step by step following the shared criteria.  This activity enabled students to understand the procedure stepwise.
