Fruits are an essential component of a balanced diet. A daily routine rich in fruits can infuse your life with vitality. Fruits are high in vitamins, minerals, and fibre, thus youngsters should be encouraged to consume a variety of fruits. Fruits have various advantages for your child, including the following:

  • Aids in the growth and development of children.
  • Strengthen the immune system of the child and aid in the battle against disease.
  • Defend against a variety of ailments, including as cardiovascular disease.

It is not necessary for all children to like all of the fruits they see; therefore, mothers are frequently concerned about how to get their children to eat fruits that they dislike but are beneficial to their health. For this purpose, a brilliant suggestion was provided in the wonderful children’s book “Oliver’s Fruit Salad,” written by Vivian French.

The story “Oliver’s Fruit Salad” is included as an ORT reader for the students of Nursery. The story is about a boy named “Oliver” who is returning to his home from his grandpa’s house after spending his holidays and enjoying all the fresh fruits from his grandpa’s garden. Now the canned and packaged fruit offered by his mother makes him unhappy.

Based on the reader and the theme “fruits”, “Healthy Fruit Day” was celebrated by making a fresh fruit salad. The purpose of this activity was to help children understand the importance of fruits for good health.

At the beginning of the activity, students sat together in a circle and listened to the story “Oliver’s Fruit Salad.” After that, four students played the characters from the story as Mum, Grandpa, Gran, and Oliver. They all sat together while Mum, Grandpa, and Gran made a healthy fruit salad, and they all ate it with great joy.

Students also took part in a colouring activity in which they were given various fruit cut-outs and asked to colour their favourite fruit while also telling the name of it.  The last task required the students to locate all of the fruits that Oliver consumed from the provided baskets.
