Colors are the smiles of nature. Leigh Hunt

Imagine a world without colours, we would feel like blind. Colours are all around us. Colours make our world beautiful and attractive. They are in our nature. Colours are all around us.

Celebrating Colour Day is a good means of highlighting the importance of colours in a child’s life. The purpose is to help the youngest children to identify and differentiate a variety of colours, converse about them and think about how colour enhances and influences their lives.

Different colours are perceived to mean different things

  • Red:  energy, strength, danger, excitement
  • Yellow:  positivity, happiness, hopefulness
  • Green:  nature, health, relaxation,
  •  Blue:  trust, faithfulness, calmness
  • Orange: creativity, emotion and enthusiasm
  • Pink:  love, kindness
  • Purple: power, imagination
  • Brown:  stability, reliability
  • Black: power, sophistication, mystery
  • White:  purity, innocence, perfection

Recognising colours and identifying colour names is an important part of a child’s development. At Beaconhouse Steel Town Campus, it is well known that early identification of colours helps to create the cognitive link between visual clues and words.  Students enjoyed celebrating Colour Day by working with the colours blue, yellow and green.

To help identify and remember the three chosen colours, students came to school in coloured clothes as per the colour allotted to each class. A series of fun activities were arranged for the students throughout the day in which they learnt to identify colours and various objects associated with them. A spectrum of colours, joy, learning and fun, this event gave the learners an opportunity to learn about colours around them in a completely different perspective. Parents enjoyed seeing their children involved in different learning activities.

Colours allotted to each class:

Pre-Nursery (Yellow)

Nursery (Blue)

KG (Green)
