As a teacher, I’m used to being the “facilitator” in the classroom, but singing? I’m as untrained as they come—just a novice who enjoys the occasional car karaoke session.

Yet, here I am, still processing the whirlwind that was “Beaconhouse Teachers Idol 2026”.

The “Why Not?” Moment

It all started with the “School-Based Round”. I signed up on a whim, thinking it would be a fun way to show my students that it’s okay to step out of your comfort zone. I walked onto that stage with zero expectations and a healthy dose of “just-try-your-best” energy.

When they announced my name as the winner, I was genuinely floored. Me? The untrained one? It was a lovely surprise, but I figured that was where the road would end.

The Cluster Round: Reality Hits

The high of the first win quickly turned into a knot in my stomach as the “Cluster Round” approached. Now, I wasn’t just singing for my friends; I was competing against talented teachers from various campuses.

The nerves were real. I looked at the other participants—some of whom clearly had formal training—and felt like an imposter. But when the music started, something shifted. I stopped worrying about “technique” and just sang from the heart. To my absolute shock, the judges called my name again. I had won the Cluster!

The Final Push: Regionals

After the Cluster win, the “just for fun” phase was officially over. The “Regional Final” was only days away, and I finally realized: I can actually do this.

I started taking it seriously. I practiced until my voice was hoarse, but I wasn’t alone. My colleagues—the real MVPs of this journey—turned into my personal coaching staff. They:

* Critiqued my song choices.
* Helped me refine my stage presence.
* Kept me fueled with tea and endless motivation when my confidence wavered.

The Big Day

The atmosphere at the Regional Finals was electric. The talent in that room was intimidating; these were the best of the best from every cluster. Standing backstage, my heart was hammering against my ribs.

When I stepped into the spotlight, I saw my colleagues in the crowd. Their cheers grounded me. I didn’t sing to win; I sang to thank them and to prove to myself that “untrained” doesn’t mean “incapable.”

“Victory is sweetest when you never saw it coming.”

When the announcement came—1st Place, Regional Champion Ms.Hooria Fatima —the room blurred. I went from a teacher who “just wanted to try” to the Teacher’s Idol of 2026.

Final Thoughts

This “unplanned” journey taught me more than just how to hold a pitch. It reminded me that as educators, we are always students first. We tell our students to be brave, to take risks, and to try new things. Sometimes, we need to take our own advice.

To my fellow teachers and my wonderful school family: thank you for believing in my voice before I did.
