We Built Delicious Sentences… and Sandwiches!

What a tasty, fun-filled week we have had in school! We swapped our pencils for butter knives and our notebooks for bread to learn all about procedure writing. That’s a big name for writing instructions that tell you how to do something, step-by-step.
And what better way to learn than by making our very own yummy sandwiches!

First, We Gathered Our Ingredients!
Just like how we need letters to build words, we need ingredients to build a sandwich! We laid everything out on the table:
Next, We Followed the Steps!
Our students learned that to make anything correctly, they have to do things in the right order. They used special Time Sequence Words to help them. Can you spot them in the pictures?
Making the sandwich was the fun part, but they were also learning how to be great writers! They discovered that:
• Procedures need a goal: Their goal was to make a yummy sandwich!
• Procedures need materials: They can’t make a sandwich without bread and fillings!
• Procedures need steps in order: They can’t put the bread on top before they put the filling in the middle! The order is very important.
Their sandwich-making activity showed them that writing steps clearly is just like following a recipe. If you do everything in the right order, you get a fantastic result!
A huge thank you to all our little chefs for listening so carefully and creating such tasty treats.
