I think we all know that we should be kind and courteous to everyone who crosses our path, but there are some people whom we do not have to become acquainted with or make friends with.<\/p>\n
Friendliness involves being kind to people, assisting others in times of difficulty, and including others so that they do not feel isolated.<\/p>\n
However, being friendly does not necessarily mean becoming friends with everyone. Friendship is not simply politeness on a higher level. Real friends appreciate us, motivate us, listen to our worries, understand what we believe in, and care deeply about our dreams and goals. They make us feel comfortable enough to be ourselves and tell the truth without fear.<\/p>\n
In reality, we cannot treat everyone in exactly the same way. If an acquaintance is rude to us, makes us uncomfortable, or crosses our boundaries, there is nothing wrong with stepping back and keeping our distance.<\/p>\n
Having boundaries does not mean being rude. Instead, it means knowing yourself and being able to politely insist that there are times when someone does not have permission to invade your personal space. Even then, it is perfectly acceptable to be polite and respectful towards someone without allowing them to become as close to you as a true friend would be.<\/p>\n
I feel that we should treat everyone in a way that reflects well on ourselves, while choosing to develop and nurture only the truest and most genuine friendships. True friendships should be based on kindness, love, respect, trust, and understanding.<\/p>\n
After all, having a dozen \u201cfriends\u201d whom we do not truly care about is not better than having even one true friend who genuinely values and supports us.<\/p>\n
