Independence does not mean the same thing to a child as it does to an adult. For an adult, independence may mean freedom, rights, and responsibilities. Rights include freedom, basic needs, and access to education. Responsibilities include keeping our surroundings clean, obeying the law, and respecting authority.<\/h6>\n
For children, independence can mean having the freedom to make their own decisions and becoming more responsible as they grow. It can be as simple as choosing their own clothes and hairstyles, having their own drawers, keeping a personal diary, managing their allowance, and learning how to use it wisely.<\/h6>\n
Children may also think that having new hobbies, being creative, and developing their own ideas are parts of independence. However, what they may not realise is that knowledge and education are also important parts of becoming independent.<\/h6>\n
To me, independence means becoming knowledgeable and educated enough to understand and handle both big and small challenges. I believe that when children start thinking for themselves, making responsible choices, and learning new things, they are beginning to become independent.<\/h6>\n
A child’s creativity, curiosity, and willingness to learn are signs that they are growing into confident and independent individuals.<\/h6>\n
