Leading from Within: My Journey with the “Leader in Me” Program

Education is no longer just about transferring knowledge; it’s about transforming character. At Beaconhouse, this transformation is driven by the Leader in Me (LiM) initiative, a holistic program applied across all our campuses to foster a culture of leadership.

Recently, we’ve had the privilege of being guided through this journey by Ms. Saima, a dedicated School Leadership Coach. Her sessions have been a catalyst for change, shifting how we view ourselves and our roles within the school.

The Power of the Session:

Unlearn, Learn, & Relearn

The sessions led by Ms. Saima are far from your typical professional development workshops. They are highly effective, interactive, and deeply reflective. Ms. Saima creates a safe space that encourages us to:

  • Unlearn: Let go of old habits or mindsets that no longer serve our growth.
  • Learn: Adopt the foundational principles of the 8 Habits of Highly Effective People.
  • Relearn: Re-envision how to apply leadership in a modern classroom setting.

Through her guidance and support, these thought-provoking sessions have become a cornerstone of our professional and personal development.

Cultivating a Leadership Ecosystem

The “Leader in Me” philosophy isn’t just for the teachers; it’s a ripple effect that touches every corner of our campus. By developing leadership skills within ourselves, we are better equipped to mentor:

  1. Our Students: Empowering them to take charge of their own learning and behavior.
  2. Our Peer Teachers: Creating a collaborative environment based on mutual respect and shared goals.
  3. The School Environment: Our campus is now a living testament to the 8 Habits, where every stakeholder—from staff to parents—becomes a leader in their own capacity.

The Role of the Lighthouse Team

As a proud member of the Lighthouse Team, I feel a deep sense of responsibility. The Lighthouse Team serves as the “beacon” for the program on our campus, ensuring that the LiM principles are integrated into our daily routines.

Our work is consistent and focused. We meet once or twice a month to:

  • Assess our current progress.
  • Discuss challenges and celebrate wins.
  • Set new, ambitious goals and break them down into manageable steps.

Final Thoughts

The Leader in Me program is more than just a curriculum; it is a lifestyle. With the continued support of leadership coaches like Ms. Saima and the collective effort of the Lighthouse Team, we are not just teaching leadership—we are living it.

By taking small, manageable steps today, we are ensuring that every student at Beaconhouse graduates with the confidence to lead themselves and others.
