There is a unique kind of happiness I experience whenever I see parents interacting, engaging and meaningfully participating in school activities. As an educator and school leader, these moments fill me with pride because they represent something much deeper than attendance at an event. They reflect a shared commitment to a child’s learning journey.

When parents come to school events, interact with teachers and take an active interest in what their children are learning, it strengthens the entire learning ecosystem. Education becomes most powerful when it is shared, when the school and home work together, when children see that learning extends beyond the classroom and when parents show that they value not just grades but experiences, growth and participation.

I have seen how children light up when their parents are present. Their self-esteem rises. Their confidence grows. They feel supported, valued and motivated. They take pride in showcasing their abilities, their creativity and their skills. That moment, when a child glances at their parent in the audience and smiles, builds a deep sense of belonging and emotional security.

Parent involvement also enriches the school environment. It creates stronger communication between families, encourages community building and nurtures trust. The school becomes not just an institution but a collaborative space where everyone contributes.

For students, this means school transforms into a place where they can express who they are, not just academically but socially, emotionally and creatively. They feel seen. They feel heard. They feel that their parents and teachers are walking alongside them, cheering them on.

This is why these moments bring me joy, because they symbolise the heart of education: connection, partnership, pride and shared growth.
