Think Before You Throw

Have you ever looked at your plate and seen food left behind? Food waste is a big problem because millions of people around the world do not have enough food to eat. When we waste food, we also waste the water, energy, time, and effort used to grow, prepare, and cook it.

People waste food for many reasons. Sometimes they take more food than they can eat, buy too much, or throw away food because they do not like how it looks. At home and at school, we can make a difference with simple actions.
Children can start by taking only as much food as they can finish. Families can plan meals before shopping and store food properly so it does not spoil. Extra food can be shared with others instead of being thrown away. We can also use leftover vegetables to make sandwiches, soups, or other meals.

A clean city begins with clean plates. If every family wastes less food, we can save resources, reduce rubbish, and make our communities cleaner. Let’s take action today!
