Our reader launch for <\/span>Rocket to the Moon<\/span><\/i> was an exciting adventure. We began with a <\/span>picture walk<\/span><\/i>, inviting students to explore the illustrations and make predictions about the storyline. This sparked their curiosity and set the stage for active reading.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the first 10 minutes, students read through the text independently or with a partner, engaging with the words and connecting them to the visuals they had just explored. This quiet reading time helped them build confidence and fostered a sense of ownership over the story.<\/span><\/p>\n

After a short <\/span>mind break<\/span><\/i> to refresh and reset, we gathered together for <\/span>model reading<\/span><\/i>. I read the story aloud, using expression and intonation to bring the characters and action to life. This supported students in understanding tone, rhythm, and meaning, especially for those who benefit from auditory reinforcement.<\/span><\/p>\n

To wrap up the session, we had a thoughtful discussion through guided questions. Students reflected on the story\u2019s events, characters, and key vocabulary, deepening their comprehension and critical thinking.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, students chose between <\/span>colouring rockets<\/span><\/i> or <\/span>constructing 3D models<\/span><\/i> using glossy sheets, crepe paper, and markers. We organized the activity outdoors, where the fresh air and open space encouraged creativity, collaboration, and joyful exploration.<\/span><\/p>\n

The day was a beautiful blend of literacy, creativity, and imagination\u2014our little astronauts were truly over the moon!<\/span><\/p>\n
